Spring Events in the Department of Government

After a crazy winter, which regrettably canceled the department's plans for the Kentucky Political Science Association meeting, the EKU Department of Government has several events upcoming for Spring 2015.

First, the political clubs -Young Democrats, College Republicans, and Young Americans for Liberty -are joint hosting Politics on the Plaza, from 11:00am to 1:00pm (the time has changed from the banner) on Wednesday, March 25.  Elected officials and candidates for statewide offices will be on the Powell Plaza.  There will be pizza and candy provided by the clubs, SGA, and the politicians.  This will be a great opportunity to get to know your elected officials and to learn about the upcoming statewide elections in November.

Next, the annual First Amendment Week celebrations will be held April 12 through 18.  The Department of Government will be hosting panel discussions on the US Supreme Court's decision to take up state same-sex marriage laws and the possible affect on religious groups, and on the value of free speech in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January.  Additionally, the theme for this year's celebration is transparency in government, so we will be talking about and screening clips from the movie The Pentagon Wars.   The movie is based on the story of a whistleblower working on the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle who tried to bring attention to the project's problems through media and Congressional oversight.

The Mock Trial Team has also been busy racking up wins, and for more details see their story on the Paralegal Page, or the Mock Trial page.
